Summary: As a deputy US Marshall, Jerry was occasionally charged with the duty to escort prisoners from Athens to Atlanta, presumably to the Federal prison there.  More research is needed as to whom the prisoners were, and the crimes that were sending them to prison. I wonder about the campfire conversation between the men, and if any were former Confederate soldiers in the group.  Also curious about the route taken from Athens west to Atlanta, and how it took 2 full days and nights.
